We have L3 switch and it has all VLAN setup. Now we are implementing openstack and want to configure VLAN on it so my instances can be connected to all VLANs. I want to assigne direct IP on VM instead of floating.

  1. does switch trunk port will connect to all compute node right?
  2. How does Openstack compute node will tags VLAN?
  3. How does my instance will connect to appropriate VLANs and get IPs?

Please suggest what solution will be good for my setup? I don't want to use NAT anymore. all VM will be on directly connected to existing network.

  1. switch trunk port should be connected to your compute nodes
  2. for example, if your compute node is running KVM and openvswitch, on each compute node, each port is VLAN tagged and traffic sent via the physical network interface of the compute node to the trunk-ed port on your L3 switch. you can see the tags using ovs-vsctl show
  3. each instance has a port, VLAN tagged, when you assign a network to it. IP can be assigned by Openstack's neutron DHCP agent when you spin up the instance.
