Image too large for a given flavor

I have started up a test OpenStack envionment using 3 virtual machines for the controller, network, and compute nodes. Everything is working great and I am able to launch the CirrOS image as well as some of the Ubuntu Server images.

I have a custom CentOS image that I would like to launch, but the image is quite large, roughly 1.1GB. I have created a new flavor through the Horizon dashboard giving as many resources as my computer will possibly allow for me to try to boot this image, but when I try to launch the instance with this image, I get the following error:

Error: Failed to launch instance "Tools": Please try again later [Error: Build of instance 634c0e7b-4e82-4370-9e01-a19917e3a1ed aborted: Flavor's disk is too small for requested image.].

The CentOS image is 1.1GB but the flavor I'm using is:

vCPU:2 - RAM:2048MB - Root Disk:5GB

I understand that the image is a little larger but I believe these specs should be enough to run it, as I've done so in other environments with similar specs. Does anyone know what could be causing this error or what I can adjust to make the flavor large enough?

Is there anywhere I can find more specifics on what exactly was not large enough in the flavor?

As the answer above it depends on how much space you allocated to the OS when creating the image. If it's a cloud image prebuild than usually they build it with 10GB root storage. You can try createing a volume from the image and see how much space is required to create the volume (if you have cinder installed).

Hi,

While creating custom CentOS image how much disk have you allocated.Create a new flavour with same amount of disk may be little more that will solve your problem.
