I am trying to run example "capabilities/join" from https://github.com/openstack/mistral-extra (https://github.com/openstack/mistral-...). I have set "auth_enable=False" in mistral.conf. Do i have to create an image in openstack so as to be able to populate values of server_name, image_id, flavor_id, ssh_username, ssh_password and volume_name in input.json file? If not, then from where i will get these details?

Yes, you will need to create an image and pass in that ID. You will also need to do the same for flavor.

server_name, ssh_username, ssh_password and volume_name don't need to be created in advance, they are created by the workflow.
