Tried as per the documentation given in, which is for Juno release of openstack. But it doesnt seam to work the same for Openstack Kilo. Giving Mechanism driver as opendaylight in ml2_conf.ini file, prevents neutron-server service from starting. Is is mandatory to use, for the mechanism driver to work in Kilo release?

I faced the same issue :-)

Install the missing odl module:

apt-get install python-pip

pip install networking_odl

Then restart the neutron server service.
