Hi, I have four HPCs. One for controller node, one for network node, the other two for compute node. I want to add block storage service now. Seems the machine is not enough. My question is could I install cinder service on both two compute node (Course they have lots of free disk space)?

again, Could I install cinder service on controller node or network node?

thanks

OpenStack Cinder services tend to not directly interfere with Compute services, so it is possible.

However, do consider the indirect interference - cinder will be using additional CPU, RAM, disk space and network bandwidth, that will therefore not be available to the compute services. You will want to consider reducing the amount of RAM & number of CPUs the compute node advertises as being available.

Consider also the points of failure for the system and what would happen when each host or service was unavailable, in addition to the security requirements.

Thanks for your answer. Seems it's a trade-off between performance and cost. Well, I would first try to install cinder service on compute node.

thx again!

No worries, all the best, and thanks for using OpenStack :)
