Heterogeneous hypervisors (KVM, ESXi) Neutron support (DVS ML2 driver)

I recently discovered the community effort in order to overcome the automated interconnection limitation between VMs placed on compute island based on KVM and ESXi hypervisors (as described also in many other ask.openstack discussions, see here).

Here and here the corresponding ML2 Mechanism driver's github pages.

Is anyone aware of the level of maturity of such drivers? Is there any post referencing any possible constraint for the underlying infrastructure or any possible related threats? Is there any guide on how to test them?

Is there any guide referencing how to build up a fully working Openstack infrastructure with Neutron leveraging both hypervisors?

Thanks in advance!

I found this presentation from Mirantis.

It claims this configuration could be achieved using either HPOS, MOS, VIO or DIY. Is anyone exploring last method?

Thanks in advance
