I found the same question in https://ask.openstack.org/en/question/66283/die-58-download-of-get-pippy-failed/ (here) , I tried the proposed solution but it doesn't work. Thank you!

The problem was the proxy. I setup the proxy for git and the error disappears!

$ export http_proxy=http://proxy.ip.ad.ress:portnumber/
$ export https_proxy=http://proxy.ip.ad.ress:portnumber/
$ git config --global http.proxy $http_proxy
$ git config --global https.proxy $http_proxy

So basically it's a proxy problem, therefore you need also to make sure that the proxy is setup system wide (if you are using a desktop version of ubuntu) or by editing "/etc/environment" (if you are using a server version of ubuntu).
