I have a multinode kilo OpenStack setup with a controller node, network node and 2 compute nodes. I have installed a cirros image with the following steps:

1. Create a temporary local directory:

$ mkdir /tmp/images

2. Download the source image into it:

$ wget -P /tmp/images

3. Upload the image to the Image service using the QCOW2 disk format, bare container format, and public visibility so all projects can access it:

$ glance image-create --name "cirros-0.3.4-x86_64" --file /tmp/images/cirros-0.3.4-x86_64-disk.img \
  --disk-format qcow2 --container-format bare --visibility public --progress

Now I want to install an Ubuntu image on my setup and boot VM's with it. So what would be the desired steps for that.

I have checked this link "" but couldnt get through.

Just download a ubuntu cloud image from, create an image and boot a vm with a keypair. Example:

# cd /tmp/
# wget
glance image-create --name "UbuntuTest" --disk-format qcow2 --container-format bare --file vivid-server-cloudimg-amd64-disk1.img --is-public True --progress
 # nova boot --flavor m1.tiny --image UbuntuTest --nic net-id=<NET_ID> --key-name <KEY_PAIR> instancetest1

The guide you are following is to create and configure an ubuntu image for use in cloud environments, what i say is to create a glance image from an already created ubuntu cloud image. Regards
