I you want Dropbox like service you need object storage, so that means swift. Also take a look at Ceph RADOS, which can be used for OpenStack or just like S3 compatible storage. For frontend I tried ownCloud and it seems pretty OK. It has desktop and mobile clients also.

It's possible to plug OwnCloud with Swift backend : http://owncloud.org/support/custom-mount-configuration/

But is it possible to plug it with Ceph ?

Sure, ceph radosgw has swift compatible api. I'm using ceph for object storage on OpenStack.
