How memcached help keystone ? What it cache ? Tokens ?

Is there any disadvantages of memcached for keystone ?

Do one need to clean the cache at particular interval to improve the performance ?

When you use memcached, the tokens will be saved in memcahced instead of database. And tokens needn't write to database when using memcached. This gives your database some room to breathe so it can handle other tasks.

So that will be token store, what if db is used for storing token and memcached is used for cache using the [cache] section for configuration. In this case how memcached helps ? and what it cache ? and does it has performance impact if kept running for longer period ?
