Openstack installation guide contradiction

This page: http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/install-guide/install/apt/content/basics-networking.html instructs to configure both nodes with static IPs on both interfaces.

While this page: http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/install-guide/install/apt/content/nova-compute.html Tells not to configure the compute node with a static IP and the external interface at that.

Question 1: Why is there a contradiction? Question 2: What if I'm accessing the compute node via SSH and I need that external interface to be configured?

Thanks.

1) Please lodge a documentation bug for this, by clicking the red bug icon in the top right of the page you found the contradiction

2) Personally, I'd recommend using the internal interface to access the compute node via SSH. If you need to access the node from outside the internal network, a jump-box on both networks is a good way to get around this.

If you really, really need to expose the compute node's SSH service on an external network - you will need to change your nova network to disable share_dhcp_address, then manually assign IPs, and manually edit the addresses database table to ensure that each IP address you have manually assigned is set to allocated=True. This is not a recommended configuration, and you will probably encounter some other issues to work around.
