Why does nova database keep rows for deleted instances? [closed]

  1. Today I was accessing the 'nova' database. I was looking at the table 'instances' using sql query. It returned 100 entries. All these are the vm instances what I have created over last one month. I have deleted all these over period of time.

  2. When I run 'nova list' command, it returns only one vm instance. This is right also.

Question: Why instance table in database is keeping all the instances even though I have deleted them ?

I guess for accountability, auditing and troubleshooting, it is important to retain this data. There is also an instance_actions table.

Even I have the same ques, But this kind of behaviour won't happen with neutron database. Hope someone know the exact reason can help us to understand.
