I'm trying to setup a Openstack Havana using Packstack, with a Controller+Network Node and an array of Compute Nodes, all of them on a Management Subnet.

Since i'm working in a Corporate IT environment, DHCP is enabled by default for all my Subnets. Should i ask my network admin to configure my Subnet to be used for Floating Ip's to be removed from DHCP scope?

You can have many options.

  1. Its better to allocate new subnet for your Floating IP's no matter dhcp is enabled or not but this subnet should only be reserved for Floating IP's.
  2. If you require few floating IP's then its better to exclude some IP's from dhcp pool and define excluded IP range in floating IP's configuration.

Thanks to Zaino from India.. i was able to build a successful POC with 10 compute nodes for a private cloud with the existing external network i had. I had internet access to internal subnets through NAT it's working brilliantly till now..

You can use last addresses from subnet for floating pool. E.g. for using should not influence on dhcp if there < 200 hosts in subnet

What problems have you faced with DHCP enabled?

My POC is not yet up and running.I'm still working on the environment setup. Was wondering if the DHCP should be enabled on disabled on the Floating IP subnet.(My eth1 with br-ex will access this Subnet). I'll try with the DHCP enabled and update on this forum.(Unless someone advises me not to have DHCP)
