got cinder backup configured on openstack Juno with ceph as backend but every time when i try to make an backup from an existing volume with cinder backup-create, i always get

ERROR: Service cinder-backup could not be found. (HTTP 500) (Request-ID: req-72abc5da-1196-4f31-bc18-c4e9d140a48c).

If i try to do the backup via Horizon this error message will appear in /var/log/horizon/httpd_error.log /var/log/cinder/cinder-backup.log shows no errors. You also find this error in the cinder-api.log but nothing else.

Cinder backup setup in /etc/cinder/cinder.conf:

backup_driver = cinder.backup.drivers.ceph

backup_ceph_conf = /etc/ceph/storage.conf

backup_ceph_user = cinder-backup

backup_ceph_chunk_size = 134217728

backup_ceph_pool = backups_storage

backup_ceph_stripe_unit = 0

backup_ceph_stripe_count = 0

restore_discard_excess_bytes = true

The cinder backup service is up and running, output of cinder service-list

and ps also shows that the service is running:

cinder 39603 0.0 0.1 425452 57704 ? Ss Jun26 0:36 /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/cinder-backup --config-file=/etc/cinder/cinder.conf --log-file=/var/log/cinder/cinder-backup.log

What did i do wrong?

Have you tried:

 cinder service-list

That should tell you if the service is actually running and listening.
