Can i upload large dataset to block storage before attaching it to the instance?

I am bit new to openstack. I have created 7 clusters in Sahara meant for processing hadoop MapReduce programs. I want to upload some public datasets in block storage which I can attach to these instances but I am not getting a way to copy these datasets to the block storage I created before attaching it to the instances.

Any help? Thanks in advance.

Yes, I did that already but quite painful when you have to copy 100's GB to block storage so I was looking of some direct method :)

But thanks for answering! really appreciate.

You can attach the block storage to some existing VMs. And then you can copy the datasets to block storage through the existing VMs. After it, you can detach and attach to your hadoop cluster. As I know, cinder can create block storage from image. I'm also wondering if cinder can create block storage from some existing datasets. :)
