Havana is expected to have VNC connections secured by Kerberos. Which settings in nova.conf are relevant in regards to encrypting VNC traffic? is there any detailed documentation for this?

I don't know anything about Kerberos but you could encrypt VNC connections with SSL even in Grizzly.

This is what to put in /etc/nova/nova.conf on the controller (VNC proxy):

# novnc or SPICE proxy (both use these)
ssl_only=true
cert=/etc/nova/ssl/cloud-cert.pem
key=/etc/nova/ssl/cloud-key.pem

Then change novncproxy_base_url to start with https.
