I want to run fully virtualized VM (which doesn't have virtio driver) using openstack and would like to know the nova/glance api interface to overide the default of "vda" for disk dev type and set it to "hda" as below:

<disk device="disk" type="file"> <source file="..."></source> <target bus="ide" dev="hda"> </target></disk>

I see following facility for overiding default disk bus type, but not for disk dev type. glance image-update --property hw_disk_bus=ide <vm_image></vm_image>

Maybe you can configure this option on nova.conf: libvirt_disk_prefix. It is said this option can override the default disk prefix for the devices attached to a server, which is dependent on libvirt_type. (valid options are: sd, xvd, uvd, vd)
