On a production setup, can OpenStack controller nodes be run as virtual machines? Are there any implications of running the controllers as VMs? Have you seen a production environment where the controllers are run as Highly Available virtual machines ?

Thanks. So any specific challenges due to the fact that they are running as VMs? The reason why I ask this is, I don't see many reference architectures pointing to run the controllers as VMs.

Hello Shaheen, we are running our entire OpenStack setup except for storage and compute resources virtualized in VMware. Setting up your controlller nodes is no different when having them virtualized.

No, nothing to-do install your VMs and then use the Openstack documentation for installation.

@tobasco Do you have virtualized your networknode ?

We had virtualized network nodes in VMware before but we now have dedicated hardware for those.

We had virtualized network nodes in KVM, too. Now we now have dedicated hardware for those, too. Because of Slow connections! Thanks for your reply!
