I have two OpenStack setups running Juno and IceHouse. Can I move a compute node from IceHouse setup to Juno setup?

Luckily compute nodes just dont do to much. So here is what I would suggest:

  • In the Icehouse environment, disable the nova-compute service and move all of the instances to other nodes in that environment
  • Stop all openstack services on the compute node
  • Update the configuration on the compute for your juno environment
  • Install the juno packages on the compute node
  • Start all openstack services on the compute node

That should be all you need to do to properly change its environment. The way the compute node communicates is with message queues, so it will automatically check into your juno environment and you can begin launching instances on the compute node!

To cleanup the old nova-compute service in the Icehouse environment you will have to edit the database. It is my undertanding a proper remove command is being worked on moving forward.
