Weird error migrating Windows 7 host from ESX

asked 2015-04-23 15:37:16 -0500

I've had some success creating a Windows 2012 guest image for Openstack, but for the one Windows 7 guest I have to move out of ESX I've had nothing but trouble.

I used MergeIDE to get the host to not bluescreen on KVM, converted it to qcow2, installed the VirtIO drivers (via virt-manager on my workstation), and ran Cloudbase's cloud-init on the image, then uploaded it via glance.

The instances space is on an NFS mount to support live migrations.

When I launch an instance based on the image, it tries to build with no state for about 9 minutes, then throws the weirdest tracebacks on the hypervisor it is building on:

Any ideas?

I believe you are using ESX as compute nodes and image you created of windows 7 is 64 bit image. Can you please check the image properties via

"glance show $image-id"

Its should have an additional property as "vmware_ostype=windows7Server64Guest" also check for property "hypervisor_type=vmware" If it dont have such property you can add them with "glance image-update" command.
