Hi Everyone,

I have setup openstack Juno env with 1 compute, network and controller node by following the steps in the following link.

http://docs.openstack.org/juno/instal...

After setting up all the components when i tried to create an instance it nevers boots up and ends in Error state. I am also not able to delete the same instance in error state. I checked on the controller node all nova services are running fine with the smiley. I am seeing below errors/warnings in logs for Nova scheduler

2015-04-23 11:25:40.092 4002 INFO nova.filters [req-a6d0494e-9ec7-4dd8-aee1-241e008aa7e4 None] Filter RetryFilter returned 0 hosts

and nova-conductor

2015-04-23 11:25:40.109 4034 WARNING nova.scheduler.driver [req-a6d0494e-9ec7-4dd8-aee1-241e008aa7e4 None] [instance: 7483942a-7530-4e9f-b8df-f0b9e54303d1] NoValidHost exception with message: 'No valid host was found.' 2015-04-23 11:25:40.110 4034 WARNING nova.scheduler.driver [req-a6d0494e-9ec7-4dd8-aee1-241e008aa7e4 None] [instance: 7483942a-7530-4e9f-b8df-f0b9e54303d1] Setting instance to ERROR state.

I dont see any other errors in logs. Does any one know what could be the possible issue?

can you run 'nova hypervisor-stats' , to ensure you have space. Do you have instances in error state? If so have you tried to 'nova reset-state' and then delete them. Have you tried creating a micro instance using the Cirros image?

NoValidHost was found so it is most likely a networking problem. Can you please edit your question and add the last few lines of the nova-compute service when you try to launch an instance please?

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. I check the stats and it looks fine. Below are the stats,

Property | Value |
+----------------------+-------+
| count | 1 |

| current_workload | 0 |

| disk_available_least | 20 |

| free_disk_gb | 18 |

| free_ram_mb | 4913 |

| local_gb | 23 |

| local_gb_used | 5 |

| memory_mb | 7985 |

| memory_mb_used | 3072 |

| running_vms | 5 |

| vcpus | 1 |

| vcpus_used | 5 |

I am using Cirros image for testing instances. After i reset-state and then try to delete it, it still shows deleting for a while and shows status ERROR again.

root@controller:~# nova list

Do you know where else i can look to fix this issue? Its been holding me from proceeding further since last 2 days.

sorry if my comment is a bit idiotic but have you tried deleting the VMs via Dashboard?

How about restart openstack-nova-compute service?

First time check noava-manager service list

[root@controller ~]# nova-manage service list Binary Host Zone Status State Updated_At nova-consoleauth controller internal enabled :-) 2015-01-08 08:46:42 nova-conductor controller internal enabled :-) 2015-01-08 08:46:42 nova-scheduler controller internal enabled :-) 2015-01-08 08:46:42 nova-cert controller internal enabled :-) 2015-01-08 08:46:42 nova-compute compute1 nova enabled XXX 2015-01-08 08:22:02

Second restart openstack-nova-compute [root@compute1 nova]# systemctl restart openstack-nova-compute

Sometime openstack-nova-compute doesn't work after reboot nova node.

Thanks

Execute nova service-list on the controller and see the state of the services. In a way this should help you to see if there is any issue with the OpenStack related services and pursue their logs in /var/log directory. For example, check /var/log/nova directory for any nova related errors.

Try this. This command worked in my case. ================== ================= For nova compute use following command

cd /usr/bin

# ./nova-compute

For nova network use following command

cd /usr/bin

# ./nova-network

For nova conductor use following command

cd /usr/bin

# ./nova-conductor

For nova cert use following command

cd /usr/bin

# ./nova-cert
