Prerequisites: 1. The shell for “nova” user needs to be changed from “/bin/false” to “/bin/bash” 2. Passwordless authentication between compute nodes needs to be setup as “nova” user for resizing to work. 3. Same key pair ( private + public ) can been used for authentication between compute nodes considering scaling requirements in future

Steps:

a) Create an instance : current size m1.small

b) List exisiting flavors

# nova flavor-list

c) Resize command to change the instance from m1.small (2 ) to m1.medium (3 )

# nova resize test_resize 3 --poll

d) In case you need to revert the resize at this point , use below command

# nova resize-revert e014a0bf-300e-4aad-8adf-90765403871c

e) In case you dont need to revert , Confirm the resize and the instance state would turn to “ACTIVE”

# nova resize-confirm e014a0bf-300e-4aad-8adf-90765403871c

How do I switch to nova user in order to configure passwordless authentication. I tried using keystone password set for nova, that did not work. I'm concerned if I reset password for nova user I might break something else. please help....

Update the OS level local 'nova' user and not the Database User 'nova'

usermod -s /bin/bash nova
passwd nova

And then copy over ssh keys for nova@compute-node for passwordless authentication between all nodes as nova user.
