I am trying to find ways of replicating an openstack cloud environment to a target environment in case of disaster recovery. To achieve that in bits and pieces I started with keystone service. I wanted to know the following things.

  1. Is it appropriate to back up and restore keystone information related to users, tenants and other stuff and restore them in the new openstack environment. If not what would be the alternatives?

  2. In case if its is appropriate, is there a way to back up the keystone data and restore it on the new environment?

  3. Is " keystone-manage saml_idp_metadata " helpful in any way for replication?

Please help in knowing any alternative ways if there are any.

Thank you.

Why not just run keystone in a HA Setup, these links are a bit old but you can do some digging. So if your primary keystone node goes down it's immediately replaced with a slave node with no down time.
