I am new to Openstack - please bear with me.

I was given some existing gear and asked to deploy Ppenstack with it. My questions mostly involve storage architecture planning.

Here's the gear I'm working with

  • (1) Dell blade chassis, M1000e
  • (16x) Dell PowerEdge M610 2x quad-core w/ HT procs, 48GB RAM, and 2 GigE/ISCSI ports 2x 73GB HDDs
  • Existing ISCSI SAN

  • How many blades should I dedicate to cloud control items? I'm thinking 2, but I'm not sure how to deal with the DB clustering.
  • How many blades should I dedicate to storage node activities? I'm sure this depends on what technologies I'll choose for storage provider.
  • With only ISCSI LUNs being available for my storage space, is there no point in using Ceph? Should I just overlay Gluster over my LUNs on my storage nodes?

Thanks so much in advance for any advice that you can provide!
