When I execute quantum floatingip-list , it does not show port id associated with the floating ip ...what could have gone wrong?

Looks like it was never associated with an internal IP.

The easiest way to associate it is to use Horizon. The doc has an example with the CLI here: http://docs.openstack.org/network-admin/admin/content/demo_logical_network_config.html
