How to choose the right number of partitions in swift?

Hi,

As per the http://docs.openstack.org/developer/swift/deployment_guide.html (deployment guide) , there should be a minimum of 100 partitions per drive. (As recommended by swiftstack too) My question is how this number was chosen? What are the impacts of that number on the swift's performance?
