Hi,

As I understand there is no API for compression. Am I right ? In spite of that, I guess the data is compressed. The question is where ? Is it compressed by the user (user space) ? Is it compressed by the kernel (kernel space) ? Is it compressed by the SATA driver(one second before the data is read/written to the HDD) ?

Thanks, Amir

Rudimentary compression is done when a tarball is created. That tarball object is then stored on the Swift ring.

The data is not compressed.

Compression can be done client side before upload, or you can write a compression egg and shove it in the pipeline. There may already be one that exists, but I haven't looked for a while.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by "you can write a compression egg and shove it in the pipeline" ?
