Hi all,

I am just a user of Icehouse, and I try to migrate my virtual machines from VirtualBox and VMware to OpenStack. But the network problem always bothers me. Here is my operation. My RedHat 6.4 virtual machine works fine on my laptop (windows), and I transfer .vmdk or .ova file (which can turn to .vmdk after use command tar) to OpenStack. Then I use

qemu-img convert -O qcow2 testbox2.vmdk testbox.qcow2 -p

convert .vmdk to qcow2. And then, I use

glance image-create --name="TESTBOX" --disk-format=qcow2 --container-format=bare --is-public=true < /home/charge/testbox.vmdk

to make a image in OpenStack. Than I launch TESTBOX, and I can not get any network adapters in the instance. It seems that the network interface is not recognized in OpenStack. I try command

ifup eth0

and got error of

Device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization

and I can see the instance has a IP on Dashboard, but I try ping this IP from other instance, it does not work.

So, how can I migrate VMs to OpenStack with available network interface.

BTW, I got some other .ovf files from other people's VirtualBox, they work fine in OpenStack, so I guess I used the wrong way convert my images. Please help me with it, thank you, guys.

Hey Luke, well you converted .vmdk image to .qcow2 file and then you uploaded .vmdk image to glance registry.

glance image-create --name="TESTBOX" --disk-format=qcow2 --container-format=bare --is-public=true < /home/charge/testbox.vmdk

The above should be changed to

glance image-create --name="TESTBOX" --disk-format=qcow2 --container-format=bare --is-public=true < /home/charge/testbox.qcow2
