Each time after installing Open vSwitch successfully and rebooting, I get the following error. ovs-vsctl: unix:/usr/local/var/run/openvswitch/db.sock: database connection failed (no such file or directory). Does anyone know why the db.sock file goes missing?

The db.sock is created when the ovsdb-server process starts up. Maybe you have something starting up earlier that is trying to access the socket? The fact that you're OVS socket is /usr/local suggests that you're using some sort of locally built package rather than using a system package, which means that maybe the default startup order isn't correct for your environment.

What distribution are you using? How does OVS start when the system boots?
