1) I am trying to create volume in devstack icehouse. While creating volume I am not getting anything in the dropdown corresponding to "Type" field. Suppose I want to create volume of "SATA" type, then how can I put "SATA" in "Type" dropdown. Below is the image for creating volume

image description

2) I am not able to create volume more than 10GB. Creating volume more than 10GB ends with the error. Suppose I want to create volume of 300GB, then how this can be achieved.

3) Where can I get the logs that has been generated while creating volume for analysing error. I have checked the directory /var/log , but couldn't get any folder named "cinder". So before installation, do I have to make any change in file to get the logs ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi, I was creating volume of 11 GB, and here is the log

I presume cinder is installed and running? You don't see cinder in /var/log, do you see cinder in /etc & /var/lib?

Yes, cinder is running. There is cinder in /etc but not in /var/lib. Does this explains anything?

Run the command before running "./rejoin-stack.sh "

"sudo losetup /dev/loop1 /opt/stack/data/stack-volumes-lvmdriver-1-backing-file" it will work

The issue has been resolved

For Issue 2) I have followed the step mentioned in the below link https://udaraliyanage.wordpress.com/2...

Issue 3) is a repeated question of https://ask.openstack.org/en/question...

Thanks to both of you for your contribution. If you have any suggestion, please post.

1) You are not seeing type drop down because you need to create the volume type before that gets populated.

The volume type is part of cinder multi backend implementation. You can read how to configure it here: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Cinde...

2) The reason you are probably getting an error when you create a volume over 10G is that during the devstack installation that is what was allocated as the underlying storage available for use to cinder. But not 100% sure unless you have logs to confirm.

3) All the logs for cinder are stored in /var/log/cinder but in a devstack env they may go else where depending oh local.rc was configured. Check /etc/syslog to start with.

Hi, I have updated the question by including the log that was generated during creating a volume of 11 GB. Hope this will help in analysing the issue more closely.

Thanks

Not much info here outside of No valid host was found. Can you run pvscan and post output.

here is output of pvscan

PV /dev/loop1 VG stack-volumes lvm2 [10.01 GiB / 10.01 GiB free]

Total: 1 [10.01 GiB] / in use: 1 [10.01 GiB] / in no VG: 0 [0 ]

Well, you cant create a volume greater than. 10g because you only have 10 gig available.
