Do you recommend to have raid1 for the operating system on the nodes of a Swift cluster?

We are building a 6 nodes production swift cluster. On the storage nodes, do you guys recommened to do raid 1 for the operating system (not for the swift disks) ? I think if we do raid1 and if we lost the operating system disk, we will just rebuild the raid instead of rebuilding the whole node that has 24TB+ disk.

Yes, it is a good idea to provide redundancy to the root file system for the host OS as that will help reduce the number of host outages.

So lets say we do not have raid for the root filesystem. In that case we need to fresh install the operating system, reformat each and every swift disks and add it back to the ring? or you can just initilize the swift disks so that they do not have sync all over again?

+Paras Pardhan, if you don't have RAID for the root filesystem, you can reformat your OS disk, and if the data drives are still ok and remounted to the same location, then you should be good to go
