At first you should select your deployment method. Trace the following simple if-then-else:

  • If (Your primary goal is to learn openstack deployment process and configuration in details):
  • else-if (Your primary goal is to rapidely setup openstack services and endpoints and work with the service APIs)
    • Use automatic deployment methods such as devstack

In either case, you should install openstack basic services:

  • keystone: Authentication service
  • MySQL: Openstack database service
  • RabbitMQ: Openstack messaging service
  • Glance: Openstack image service
  • Nova-compute: Openstack Compute Service
  • Nova-network: Legacy openstack networking service

If you select to use devstack, this link is useful for swift installation.
