heat verbose logging

Is there a way to log and/or view each step in the heat-stack creation process?

I'm attempting to spin up some CentOS6 instances and I want to find out why the #cloud-config is being ignored.

So, I would like to see each step from stack-creation to instance creation.

Thanks.

You could run the command with --debug from the CLI:

heat --debug commands --flags

As far as telling what is going on within the Instance you can pull the console log, as long as console has been setup within the image, to see if it is failing at fetching Metadata or if it is actually ignoring cloud-init. Use nova list to get the UUID of the Instance you are referring to, then use nova console-log to view the console of the instance:

nova list --all-tenants
nova console-log {instance-uuid}

It may not be ignoring what you setup with cloud-init, it may just have issues with DHCP or Metadata.

Awesome. Hopefully the info was helpful. I haven't seen anything ignore cloud-init before, unless you are running scripts after the original configuration or it was just due to dhcp/metadata where it didn't actually pull anything for cloud-init to act on.

yeah on the instances cloud-init-output.log says

 014-12-05 02:53:14,281 - util.py[WARNING]: Failed loading yaml blob
 2014-12-05 02:53:14,282 - util.py[WARNING]: Failed at merging in cloud config part from part-001
