I am thinking about developing a Nova Compute Virtualization driver for FreeBSD Jails. I have found the relevant code, and it seems pretty straightforward to copy an existing driver and adjust for my needs. I am wondering if there is any documentation to help me along the way?

Hi,

It's not a virt driver, but there is an example of extending nova with a new scheduler plugin in the OpenStack Operations Guide here: http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/openstack-ops/content/customize.html

There is some basic development information at http://docs.openstack.org/developer/nova/devref/index.html to get you started, and though it might not be relevant if you're using FreeBSD a lot of developers use http://devstack.org/ for setting up their environment.

One recommendation I'd share is to post about your plans on the development mailing list (https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/MailingLists#Future_Development). Recently there's been quite an extensive discussion on how virt drivers are handled in OpenStack, that I think could affect your work. It'll also gather some people to help you along the way :)

Good luck!
