I'm fairly new to openstack and I've set up openstack using devstack on ubuntu 14.04 LTS all in on single machine. I have to interfaces in my machine, wlan0 and eth0 and I use the wlan0 interface for internet access. I have set up static ip for the eth0 interface on a different subnet than the wlan0 interface and I used eth0 as my host ip for openstack installation. My problem is once I launch an instance the instance cannot access the internet. I have set up floating ip and the instance has connectivity with the host machine i.e it can ping wlan0 and eth0. Can someone please explain what's causing this and the solution? Another question, should I always use eth0 for openstack installation?

Thanks in advance

You can use any interface for openstack. Using wlan0 for openstack would surely solve your problem of internet access. If you want to continue using eth0, you might want to look into MASQUERADE rules on your firewall which would translate packets on an interface for internet access.
