Now I am trying to install juno from scratch into ubuntu 14.04 server. I am referring to http://docs.openstack.org/juno/install-guide/install/apt/content/ch_basic_environment.html#basics-prerequisites (http://docs.openstack.org/juno/instal...) About the network interface for each node, I have some questions.

  • Can I make controller and network be one node, because I want to use neutron as network component? Do I need have 2 physical NICs for controller or just 1 NIC?
  • I am considering configure my /etc/network/interfaces as follows. It this correct?

  • Controller + network node (1physical NIC)

    /etc/network/interfaces

iface eth0 inet static
        address 10.0.0.11
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        gateway 10.0.0.1
iface eth1 inet static
        address 10.0.1.11
        netmask 255.255.255.0
iface eth2 inet manual
up ip link set dev $IFACE up
down ip link set dev $IFACE down
  • compute node (1 physical NIC)

/etc/network/interfaces

iface eth0 inet static
   address 10.0.0.12
   netmask 255.255.255.0
   gateway 10.0.0.1
iface eth1 inet static
  address 10.0.1.12
  netmask 255.255.255.0

thanks

Yes, it's possible the recent sample for CentOS 7 is here http://lxer.com/module/newswire/view/...
However, using single NIC for management network and GRE or VXLAN (VLAN data/vm ) tunnel between Controller and Compute Nodes does affect performance. Next , not having third Ehernet adapter on Network Node ( br-ex location) results management && external network to use same cable. What is sometime unacceptable.
There is a nice short Howto "Openstack Neutron Flow" explanation - https://www.hastexo.com/system/files/...
clearly demonstrating why Network Node ( Controller&&Network Node in your case) is supposed to have 3 Ethernet adapters for production solution.

Thanks for detailed reply. I am still confused for network node, do I need 3 physical NICs for for management, tunnel and external network? How do I need configure them in Switch side?

Hi,

Openstack facilitates you to install it on single node and multinode environment depending on your needs. You can setup controller and neutron on single node with single NIC.

In the case I just use one physic NIC for each nodes, do I need create three/two virtual NIC to meet the requirements of openstack ?
