We have a mixed dev & test environment that we inherited that has,

  • some VMware ESXi nodes managed by vCenter
  • some linux-kvm nodes currently managed by Virt-Manager

Are there any solution, including some openstack setups, that will allow us to manage such a mixed set of compute nodes using a single management pane ?

Yes using OpenStack you manage ESXi (VCenter) and KVM node together with single OpenStack environment. For that you should run two compute (nova-compute) services. One is for KVM and second one we need to configure to VCenter.
