Hello. I'm trying to install Juno release with Ubuntu 14.10 on 1 x86 machine using virtualbox.

As you see below, There are only 4 services are shown. nova-compute is NOT showed up. moreover, 4 services' state is "down".

root@controller:~# nova service-list

+----+------------------+------------+----------+---------+-------+------------+-----------------+
| Id | Binary | Host | Zone | Status | State | Updated_at | Disabled Reason |
+----+------------------+------------+----------+---------+-------+------------+-----------------+
| 1 | nova-cert | controller | internal | enabled | down | - | - |
| 2 | nova-consoleauth | controller | internal | enabled | down | - | - |
| 3 | nova-scheduler | controller | internal | enabled | down | - | - |
| 4 | nova-conductor | controller | internal | enabled | down | - | - |
+----+------------------+------------+----------+---------+-------+------------+-----------------+

And, I couldn't find socket connection between controller and compute node. I found the connection right after the nova-compute restart at compute node. Socket connection must be down. There's no problem with ping between them.

/var/log/nova/nova-compute.log says :

Hi just figured out this issue. it should attribute to rabbit guest account. i tried to create a new account on rabbit server on controller and assign the same permission as guest account. and replace rabbit_userid = USERID rabbit_password = PASSWORD in all nova.conf profiles, then it works

Hi,

At the very first, it seems that compute node not able to connect successfully with AMQP server. I would suggest you to verify the 'RabbitMQ status' and make sure that all OpenStack nodes are able to ping/connect with RabbitMQ server.

To verify if RabbitMQ service is running on your rabbit server, run below command: -

#systemctl status rabbitmq-server.service -l

To verify the RabbitMQ server status run the below command: -

#rabbitmqctl status

This command should print a detailed output of various information related to AMQP server. If the status is good then you need to make sure that rabbitmq port is allowed to make connection between your openstack nodes through firewall.

On RabbitMQ server you may run the below command to check if your compute node is able to establish connection with rabbit server:-

   # lsof -i :5672|grep 'compute_node_ip'

Make sure that there is no time lag between your openstack node, all the nodes should be synced with a central server time using NTP.

After verifying with above steps, I would also suggest you to change the debug mode 'true' in nova configuration file as below:

debug=True

Restart the nova compute service and try again with your operation and check the logs again for more detailed messages.

I have the same issue too, but after I reset RabbitMQ password in controller, it works. But just list 4 items, can not find the nova compute.

Reset passwork command: #abbitmqctl change_password guest 123456

nova service-list output:

i have exact the same issue here. and when i try to follow troubleshooting step, it responsed like below

root@controller:/home/gguo# systemctl status rabbitmq-server.service -l Failed to get D-Bus connection: No connection to service manager.

i found some similar question on this, but the solution is a missing database enty on compute node. is there a need installing DB on compute node? if yes, how?
