How to format a quote or a snippet of source code when you post your question?

Can someone show me how to format a snippet of source code when I post my question? How to highlight or color a phrase in red?

You should be able to see a formatting toolbar where you compose your question. It allows to enter links and basic formatting, including adding images. Hit CTRL-K to add code like:

#!/bin/bash
#this is a comment
ls $1
cd ...

and you can add quotes hittingl CTRL-,:

he said she said

and we went on like that

I know I can have basic format when I post a question. How is about when I post a comment? There is no format menu when you add a comment. For instance, I get a problem to format a content of a log file.
