I am trying to launch a m1.tiny or m1.small I get the following;
Error: Failed to launch instance "yo": Please try again later [Error: No valid host was found. Exceeded max scheduling attempts 3 for instance f35e6ece-625f-4257-80b0-98fc1a170faf].

when I look at the /var/log/nova/nova-scheduler.log entries I see the following;

Ok, neutron is configured, is Nova-network still needed?

root@NUC-OpenStack:~# neutron agent-list +--------------------------------------+--------------------+---------------+-------+----------------+ | id | agent_type | host | alive | admin_state_up | +--------------------------------------+--------------------+---------------+-------+----------------+ | 2ce821d0-cfa4-4d74-b7ea-1e364d77410a | Metadata agent | NUC-OpenStack | :-) | True | | 53c699ba-2605-4238-b233-b08764fdaec3 | DHCP agent | NUC-OpenStack | :-) | True | | a7757661-4780-4c23-ba38-15f9f2f48848 | L3 agent | NUC-OpenStack | :-) | True | | ca5f1c25-2cdd-4610-9837-7dfa49091a1a | Open vSwitch agent | NUC-OpenStack | :-) | True | +--------------------------------------+--------------------+---------------+-------+----------------+

and I saw this in the neutron log:

2014-11-01 19:00:19.995 1774 WARNING neutron.plugins.ml2.rpc [req-d06265f4-6a6b-4859-9eb3-a951f55ade43 None] Device edd02651-fc6a-4873-8562-b2c52c5a4644 requested by agent ovsfe3e7231a345 on network 7ed65944-a90d-4640-9e39-2d68b7a8adac not bound, vif_type: binding_failed

Either Neutron or Nova-Network is required. Both are not required.

If you are running Neutron. Check the Neutron logs. (/var/log/neutron/server.log). And also check the status of Neutron agents.

Using "neutron agent-list"

The problem is not because of database or disk_usage. As per log, the problem(Unexpected vif_type) is related to nova-network (as nova is unable to assign access_ip to instance). I can see service list does not show nova-network in the list. Setup nova-network and then try again.

Whenever i get the error 'No valid host found' it means that the controller and compute node cannot communicate. When I run nova service-list on the controller, it would show status as down for nova-compute and nova-network. My causes were the Rabbit message service not connected or my networking was configured wrong (I usually have my ethernet ports backward eth0 = bridge, eth1 = public when it should be eth1 = bridge, eth0 = public in nova.conf) in my case anyway.

I am running this on an Intel NUC, and it only has a single NIC, could this possibly be my issue? (eth0)

Resolved.. some time away, and looking at it fresh helped. the M12.conf file was missing some info in the begining of the file, based on the doc I was following, I added those in restarted and all is ok, and I am now able to launch instances!

Hi Capeacock, even I'm facing the same issue. Can you share the document that you followed to resolve this ( suvvari8@gmail.com ). Thank you!

I got same error because of the RAM size. For compute node i assign 2GB of RAM and i was trying to launch an instance with 2GB RAM it was failed with same error. Then i launch an instance with 512MB of RAM it was created successfully.
