Autoscaling in a production environment

asked 2014-10-24 02:43:49 -0500

Hi, i've been testing Openstack Icehouse in virtual machines a few months, and now i have some doubts about a real production environment: Controller node and network node usually runs on virtual machines or physical? Compute nodes usually runs in physical machines, but how I do autoscaling and HA? In VM are scripts that build your compute nodes automaticaly when is needed, but in physical i don't know if there is any other way from the active-standby compute node. My best regards.

Hi Eduardo,

we are using in our prodution env bare metal machines. For every job minimum of two machines to celebrate a failover if needed. The other way is to use Ironic to get a "undercloud" and some "over clouds" this over clouds will represent your production, staging or testing environments.

HA: http://docs.openstack.org/high-availa... For autoscaling look at Heat: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Heat/...

Cheers Heiko
