Dear All,

Last time i created instance by the way boot from image so that each time I create a snapshot from this instance, it's will create a snapshot with type "snapshot". So that I can restore instance by the way rebuild from this snapshot. But now I am using CEPH as storage backend so all of instance that I created will booted from the volume, so that each time i create a snapshot from this instance, it will create a volume snapshot. How can i restore from this volume snapshot (like rebuild) without create a new one instance and boot from volume snapshot???

Thanks you so much

I am not sure if there's a straight forward rebuild function with ceph as the back end because I haven't tried it yet. What I am about to try is Ceph's incremental snapshot. So basically, instead of launching a new instance from a new snapshot, I could simply generate the diff and apply the delta. My purpose is probably different than yours, I am after a DR site, but you could probably use the same idea.

I dont quite understand about "instead of launching a new instance from a new snapshot, I could simply generate the diff and apply the delta" My purpose is how to restore from an instance. because last time i boot from image so that I can restore bythe way rebuild snapshot

But in this way i cannot because dont have snapshot instance. Now I've found another way to backup is not from snapshot. I can do it by backup instance directly, actually it's not appear in dashboard. But Openstack have API to do this. Thanks you for your help!
