Openstack-nova-compute is service on compute node.
So, on Ubuntu, CentOS 6.5 :

# service openstack-nova-compute restart
# service openstack-nova-compute status

on CentOS 7, Fedora 20

# systemctl restart openstack-nova-compute
# systemctl status openstack-nova-compute

I am currently using Openstack with MaaS and Juju on Ubuntu Trusty 14.04 and had to restart one of the compute service because I needed to restart the machine. The way to do it is to juju ssh to the machine and there running sudo nova-compute restart The sudo is important, wouldn't let me do it without it, furthermor the name of the service is diffrent then above
