I want to setup an cloud using openstack for some project. I have 3 machines which have 2 -3 NIC each I also 1 router and 1 switch. What I understood is 1 machine will be set up as a Controller which will be connected to both Router for external (internet access) and the switch. The Compute node will to be connected to both Router and and Switch.

Is it a correct setting?

Yes,

Controller Node : eth0 (Management Network) Switch/Router
eth1 (Public Network) Router

Network Node : eth0 (Management Network)
: eth1 (VM Traffic Network)
: eth2 (Public Network)

Compute Node : eth0 (Management Network)
: eth1 (VM Traffic Network)

VM Traffic Network between Network Node and Compute Node will be back to back connection.

RHK

Thanks RHK :) So you mean the VM traffic connection is simply a wire connection between the ethernet ports of two computer.

Also whats the best way to install openstack . The basic guide from Openstack or the the Devstack script.

Check Mirantis Reference Architecture page. It has useful deployment figures.
