Hi, I have icehouse setup running in our lab. I have launched windows instance with windows2012server-cloudbase-image which is downloaded from here . The instance launched using this image is succesfully running with 180days trial period. The size of this image is 17GB. When I tried to take snapshot of running windows2012server instance, the status freeze at saving state. When I crosschecked the /var/lib/glance/images/ folder I could see the image is sized with 13.9GB for more than 8hours. Later I tried with other Ubuntu server image (size 2GB) which is successfully created the snapshot. Is there any restriction in size for snapshotting the image ?

Thanks Antonio , I enabled "image_size_cap". Now snapshot is completed successfully and in Active state. I also succesfully launched the new instance using this new snapshot. But its size is 14GB where the original image I launched the instance is 17GB. How come the size difference happened ?

The default value should be 1TB, try to check your configuration in glance.conf file (search for image_size_cap).

Do you have any additional information in your glance log files?
