Hello, I am trying to install OpenStack and I am really stuck on Neutron (I am following the official guide). I have one controller, 1 Network and 1 compute node. All three of them running CentOS.

I have two general questions:

  1. For bridging: The commands "ovs-vsctl add-br br-int" and "ovs-vsctl add-br br-ex" take care of bridging or I have to create the files too? (by files I mean "/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-br-int and .../ifcfg-br-ex")
  2. I don't have a public subnet so I want to test OpenStack only with private subnets. How can I accomplish that?

I don't understand if this is a question, two questions with answers in line or what. Can you please clarify? (also, read https://ask.openstack.org/faq to get familiar with how to use this site)

I...I have no idea what happened here. Possibly this happened before coffee and I got distracted while editing the original post? I will see about reverting things in a bit.

There, fixed that up. Still not sure what happened.

You should not have to create br-int manually by running ovs-vsctl add-br, and you definitely do not need to create a network-scripts file for this device.

You will need to create /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-br-ex.

I don't have a public subnet so I want to test OpenStack only with private subnets. How can I accomplish that?

Just don't bridge any interfaces to br-ex, and assign a floating address range that doesn't conflict with your local network. You will probably also want to assign br-ex the gateway address for your floating ip network, and then add MASQUERADE rules on your host to permit your instances to have outbound network access.

If you install using, for example, packstack, you will end up most of the way there (you would still need to create the masquerade rules manually, but everything else should be set up correctly).
