where to install cinder

Hello, For a new setup I'm wondering where to install the cinder component on. The plan is to have 4 server: 1 control, 1 network and 2 compute nodes. What will be the best node to install the cinder service on? In architecture-documents that I have found on the net, it looks likes the preference is to install this on the controller node. But I think this means that every block of data needs to be send over the net from a compute node to the controller node. To avoid the traffic on the net, could we install the cinder components on both compute nodes so that they use local storage only? What will be the (dis)advantages?

This is going to be dependant on your Cinder backend. But assuming you are using LVM, you must install cinder-volume on the node with the actual disks with VG. The api and scheduler services can run anywhere (typically the "controller" nodes).

If you are running something like ceph as a backend, you can run the cinder-volume service on the controllers. The computes talk directly to the ceph backend.
