While Launching a instance from Openstack Horizon GUI, I am getting the error "No valid host was found". It is a Fedora 19 instance with size - m1.tiny | 512MB RAM | 1 VCPU | 1.0GB Disk.

I am seeing the following error in the "/var/log/nova/nova-scheduler.log" log file - 2014-09-26 11:32:50.477 1115 INFO nova.scheduler.filter_scheduler [req-4e35f4f9-10da-4107-b269-6c51549c3cf6 a460ce199757473eb31654ef15f30011 c9bd17821ee34498b05a5e94c19c7350] Attempting to build 1 instance(s) uuids: [u'79cdf886-55a8-4cd1-801d-97b2ed024186'] 2014-09-26 11:32:50.503 1115 ERROR nova.scheduler.filter_scheduler [req-4e35f4f9-10da-4107-b269-6c51549c3cf6 a460ce199757473eb31654ef15f30011 c9bd17821ee34498b05a5e94c19c7350] [instance: 79cdf886-55a8-4cd1-801d-97b2ed024186] Error from last host: http://fedora20.rebacakol.com (node http://fedora20.rebacakol.com ): [u'Traceback (most recent call last):\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/compute/manager.py", line 1329, in _build_instance\n set_access_ip=set_access_ip)\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/compute/manager.py", line 393, in decorated_function\n return function(self, context, args, *kwargs)\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/compute/manager.py", line 1741, in _spawn\n LOG.exception(_(\'Instance failed to spawn\'), instance=instance)\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/openstack/common/excutils.py", line 68, in __exit__\n six.reraise(self.type_, self.value, self.tb)\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/compute/manager.py", line 1738, in _spawn\n block_device_info)\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/virt/libvirt/driver.py", line 2279, in spawn\n admin_pass=admin_password)\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/virt/libvirt/driver.py", line 2648, in _create_image\n project_id=instance[\'project_id\'])\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/virt/libvirt/imagebackend.py", line 192, in cache\n args, *kwargs)\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/virt/libvirt/imagebackend.py", line 383, in create_image\n prepare_template(target=base, max_size=size, args, *kwargs)\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/openstack/common/lockutils.py", line 249, in inner\n return f(args, *kwargs)\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/virt/libvirt/imagebackend.py", line 182, in fetch_func_sync\n fetch_func(target=target, args, *kwargs)\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/virt/libvirt/utils.py", line 653, in fetch_image\n max_size=max_size)\n', u' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/nova/virt/images.py", line 110, in fetch_to_raw\n raise exception.FlavorDiskTooSmall()\n', u"FlavorDiskTooSmall: Flavor's disk is too small for requested image.\n"] 2014-09-26 11:32:50.551 1115 INFO nova.filters [req-4e35f4f9-10da-4107-b269-6c51549c3cf6 a460ce199757473eb31654ef15f30011 c9bd17821ee34498b05a5e94c19c7350] Filter RetryFilter returned 0 hosts 2014-09-26 11:32:50.569 1115 WARNING nova.scheduler.driver [req-4e35f4f9-10da-4107-b269-6c51549c3cf6 a460ce199757473eb31654ef15f30011 c9bd17821ee34498b05a5e94c19c7350] [instance: 79cdf886-55a8-4cd1-801d-97b2ed024186] Setting instance to ERROR state.

As you can see, in the error log we can see the message "Flavor's disk is too small for requested image". However, the output of "df -h" is as follows -

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/fedora-root 38G 9.4G 27G 27% / devtmpfs 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /dev tmpfs 2.0G 84K 2.0G 1 ... (more)

No valid host found errors comes when you dont have enough resoruces to provision the requested Instance. By resources it is meant that you should have enough vCPU, RAM, HDD to host the instacnce. Now coming to your error Flavor's disk is too small for requested image You need to check that your compute node should have much space to host the instance. Checking compute nodes and making sure they have much space.

Can you please let me know how can I check the compute node and increase the disk space? FYI .... I am using all-in-one Openstack installed using packstack.

Where did you run the "df -h" command? on controller node or on your compute nodes? When you create an instance on specific compute node, the instance image(e.g qcow2) will be copied to the compute node disk. So if not enough space available on the compute node, then the "FlavorDiskTooSmall: Flavor's disk is too small for requested image" error will be shown.

Your df -h command shows that you have enough space. so my next step would be to check the logs carefully. what type of logs? Now you need to see the nova-api.log and nova-scheduler.log. Check whether rabbitmq is running on controller restart nova services.

Also check available RAM, only checking disk does not suffice

In the nova-scheduler log file, while launching the instance, I am only getting the error - "FlavorDiskTooSmall: Flavor's disk is too small for requested image.". I have also tried by restarting the system but that didn't help.

Here is the memory status - [root@fedora20 ~]# free -m total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 3953 3492 460 3 39 587 -/+ buffers/cache: 2865 1087 Swap: 2063 14 2049

then check this out.. it is a bug and has been pushed. https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/...
