Nova fails to attach a volume to instance (file not found)

i'm trying to attach volume to the instance while booting up through the following command.

root@aachuthakvm001:~# nova boot --image de01023e-8b91-4fa6-8369-1062116ed56c --flavor 1 --key-name mykey --block-device source=volume,id=055c1a1d-0132-4931-9179-5286abaa8aef,dest=volume,shutdown=preserve test-boot-instance01

i got this command from this

above command executed successfully without syntax errors but status of the instance is error on the dashboard and in the /var/log/nova/nova-compute i have the following errors.

014-09-25 16:11:53.570 26439 ERROR nova.virt.libvirt.driver [-] Getting disk size of instance-00000003: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/lib/nova/instances/4f9f8509-b3df-4e0b-af85-cf95c02f1865/disk'

i was resynced the database again i tried but it is not helpful .

any help more thankful to him

check the logs, edit the question and add more details as you keep on debugging

Is it Havana or IceHouse ?

The error logs may be because of some hung / un-deleted instances from libvirt.

Can you try the following: 1. virsh list --all 2. does it list the instance name in your error logs "instance-00000003"? If yes, then you can do this - 3. virsh undefine instance-00000003 to remove it completely.

After this also if you get an error then please paste some more info from the logs.
