instance doesn't take its hard disk space

Hello !

when i create new instance lets say with 50 GB hard drive i should expect /dev/vda1 will be 50 Gb but i find it around 8 Gb the reset of the space is not partitioned i tried many images

Alright, I misread your question the first time. If you are talking about within the instance then you will need to look into cloud-init:

If you are creating your own images then you'll need to install cloud-init and configure a few properties that will cause the instance to grow the root partition.

I would recommend downloading already created qcow2 images and looking at /etc/cloud.cfg to see what settings they use. Then work on installing the correct packages:

Where did you take those images? All images for openstack should have cloud init scripts that take care of hard disk space? Also I would make sure your metadata service is available from your instance. Try this command on your instance:

$ curl
